The Lowertown Community Group is an informal group of residents who have got together to do things in the community. Past projects have included converting the disused BT phone box into a book box, enabling the memorial seat to be installed, organising litter picks and producing a map of the village.
The map shows the names and locations of the various dwellings in the village. Locals and delivery drivers often have difficulty in finding houses so the Community Group, with support from our local Cornwall Councillor produced this map. If you would like a copy please get in touch.
Following the lifting of lockdown restrictions in 2022 a new ongoing programme of events was initiated. This has included talks and walks, summer fetes, afternoon cream teas, and carols by candlelight outside the chapel. Some of these events are one-off while others are now annual or biennial. Pictures of some of the past events can be viewed in the Photo Gallery, while details of upcoming events can be found here.
Current Projects
The latest community projects have included the refurbishment of our old phone box and notice board. The former to include the installation of a community defibrillator. Details can be found here for the phone box and here for the notice board. We have also undertaken a speed awareness project resulting in signs being installed in various locations and, most recently, have repainted the railings of Lowertown Bridge in conjunction with the Cormac Volunteer Scheme.
Meetings
The Group meets about four times a year at Trannack School and all residents are welcome to attend. Information is generally sent by email and via the WhatsApp Group but the minutes of the meeting, together with details of the next meeting, are also placed in the phone box.
